A Thangka or Thanka is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on cotton, silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala. Thangka serves as important teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, various influential lamas and other deities and bodhisattvas. Thangkas are generally kept unframed and rolled up when not on display, mounted on a material support somewhat in the style of Chinese scroll paintings, with a further silk cover on the front. If the Thangkas are kept in that way, they can last a long time, but because of their delicate nature, they have to be kept in dry places where moisture will not affect the quality of the silk. Most Thangkas were intended for personal meditation or instruction of monastic students.
The above Thangka is painted by one of our finest professional Thangka painters by using the natural colors extracted from the natural stones and 24 carat gold. The Thangka comes in the size of 44x61 cm. The above Thangka portrays many Buddhist deities with a beautifully and artistically painted designs in it. Even a small detail is well displayed in it.
